What are the requirements for 2K mold material selection?
Mold material selection is a very important part of the whole 2K mold processing process.
The material selection of 2K mold needs to meet three principles, to meet the work needs of wear resistance, strength and toughness, and at the same time to meet the economic applicability.
1. Abrasion resistance.
When the blank is plastically deformed in the mold cavity, it flows and slides along the cavity surface, causing severe friction between the cavity surface and the blank, resulting in the failure of the 2K mold due to wear.
Therefore, the wear resistance of 2K mold material is one of the most basic and important properties of molds.
In general, the higher the hardness of 2K mold parts, the lower the amount of wear and the better the wear resistance. In addition, wear resistance is also related to the type, quantity, shape, size and distribution of carbides in the material.
2. Strong toughness.
The operating conditions of 2K molds are mostly harsh, and some are often subjected to large shock loads, which can lead to brittle fractures. In order to prevent 2K mold parts from suddenly brittle during work, 2K mold should have high strength and toughness.
3. Fatigue fracture performance.
In the process of 2K mold operation, fatigue fracture is often caused by long-term cyclic stress. It can be formed in the form of low-energy multiple impact fatigue fracture, tensile fatigue fracture, contact fatigue fracture and bending fatigue fracture.
The fatigue fracture properties of 2K mold are mainly determined by its strength, toughness, hardness, and the amount of inclusions in the material.
4. High temperature performance.
When the operating temperature of the 2K mold is high, the hardness and strength will decrease, resulting in early wear or plastic deformation of the mold and failure.
Therefore, the 2K mold material should have high anti-tempering stability to ensure that the 2K mold has high hardness and strength at the working temperature.
5. Resistance to cold and heat fatigue.
Some 2K molds are in a state of repeated heating and cooling during the working process, which causes the surface of the cavity to be subjected to tension and pressure to change stress, causing surface cracking and spalling, increasing friction, hindering plastic deformation, and reducing dimensional accuracy, resulting in the failure of 2K mold.
6. Corrosion resistance.
When some 2K molds such as plastic molds are working, due to the presence of chlorine, fluorine and other elements in the plastic, strong corrosive gases such as HCI and HF are separated after heating, which erodes the surface surface of the 2K mold cavity, increases its surface roughness, and aggravates wear and failure. Therefore, it is necessary to choose materials with excellent corrosion resistance in 2K mold processing.
