What problems need to be paid attention to when overhauling injection molds?
The annual maintenance procedures required for each injection molding position are determined by the cycle time of the different molds. Here are some general principles that each mold user can use to ensure that mold components such as hot runners, heaters, guide pillars, and ejector pins are operating efficiently to prevent unforeseen situations.
1. Check whether there is early warning rust or dampness at the air dissipation hole
If rust or moisture is found near the hot runner vents, it means internal condensation or a possible ruptured water pipe. Moisture can cause a short circuit to the heater. If the machine does not run all year round, but shuts down at night or on weekends, the chance of this condensation occurs.
2. Remind the operator not to “clean” the hot nozzle at the gate
The operator happened to see a small piece of stainless steel at the mold nozzle, which may actually be a spout assembly. “Cleaning up” what seems to be an obstacle often ruins the hot mouth. In order not to damage the hot nozzle, check the type of nozzle of the lower hot runner system before taking action, and ensure that all operators are trained and able to identify all the different types of nozzles they are touching.
3. Glide buckle
For machines that run around the clock, this should be done on a weekly basis. These parts undergo a routine lubrication service.
4. Verify the resistance value of the heater interactively
You should have measured the resistance of the heater when you first started using it, and now it’s time to measure it again and compare it. If the resistance value fluctuates by 10%, consider replacing the heater to ensure that it does not fail during the production process.
5. Check whether there are signs of wear between the guide pillar and the guide bushing
Look for signs such as scratches or scratches, which are due to a lack of lubrication. The life of the guide pillar and guide bushing can be extended by additional lubrication. If the wear is so severe that a new part needs to be replaced, otherwise, the cavity and core part may not fit well, resulting in different thickness of the cavity wall.
