Injection mold cooling water leakage fault and troubleshooting method

Injection mold cooling water leakage often occurs for many reasons, mainly in the following aspects:

1. It mostly occurs at the mold cooling water pipe joint, if water leakage is found, the sealing tape should be wrapped around the thread of the pipe fitting, and then tightened.

2. Due to long-term molding conditions, the waterproof ring in the mold will be damaged, and the O-shaped waterproof rubber ring is easy to harden and crack, resulting in water leakage. Some waterproof rings are poorly installed and can also cause seal failure.
Generally, the installation position and sealing performance of the sealing ring should be checked regularly.

3. The hole wall of the cooling water hole is broken.
This often happens when trying out new molds, where the wall thickness of the design is sufficient, but the hole wall is pierced due to machining errors or post-processing.
In most cases, leaking water holes can no longer be used.

4. Maintenance of cooling water holes.
The cooling water hole is prone to scale buildup, hindering heat transfer, and in severe cases, the waterway is blocked, and regular maintenance is required.
For straight water holes, a steel rod 0.5mm smaller than the cooling water hole diameter can be inserted and hammered to remove scale and rust. For cooling water pipes embedded in the mold, the mold should be disassembled to remove rust.

After maintenance, the water leakage test should be carried out, and the water hole should be filled with water by using a hand pressure pump, kept at 2MPa pressure for 5 minutes, and the water hole should be judged whether the water hole is leaking by observing whether the water pressure is reduced.
The leakage can be plugged by mechanical fastening methods using elastomeric materials such as rubber and cork, and room temperature curing silicone can also be tried as a plugging material.

5. Regularly overhaul the heating pipe and pressure reducing pump and utilization.
Heating tubes are effective heat transfer elements and are very effective for core cooling of thin structures.
In areas where cooling water is easy to pass through, a one-way heating pipe can be installed to reduce water leakage. In addition, using a pressure reducing pump to suck up cooling water is also a way to prevent cooling water leakage.
