What are the strength requirements for thin-walled mold processing?

The strength requirements of the mold material

High strength: Thin-walled molds need to withstand large pressure and tension during processing and use, so the mold material must have high strength to ensure that the mold will not be deformed or damaged during the high-pressure and high-speed injection molding process.

High toughness: Due to the thin wall thickness of thin-walled molds, the toughness of the material is required to be higher to prevent problems such as fracture during processing and use. The high-toughness material is able to better resist shock and vibration, maintaining the stability and durability of the mold.

The strength requirements of the mold structure

Mold base design: During thin-wall injection molding, the relative projection area of the mold is large and the injection pressure is high, which puts forward higher requirements for the rigidity and strength of the mold. As a result, thin-walled forming molds have a larger profile and stronger structure than conventional molds, and can weigh more than twice as much as conventional molds.

The fixed platen and the moving platen and the supporting plate in the mold base should also increase the thickness to improve the overall strength of the mold.

Supporting and positioning device: the accuracy of thin-walled parts is higher, and the anti-deformation requirements are also higher, so more supporting columns or supporting blocks should be arranged in the formwork. The positioning device and guide device require higher precision in manufacturing to ensure excellent side support and positioning, and to prevent bending and deviation of the mold during use.

Tthe strength requirements of process parameters

Injection pressure: Thin-walled injection molded parts generally require high injection pressure to ensure that the plastic can fully fill the mold cavity and avoid defects such as bubbles and shrinkage holes.

The selection of injection pressure needs to be determined according to the specific structure and material characteristics of the mold to ensure that the mold is not deformed or damaged under high pressure.

Cooling system: The cooling system of thin-walled molds needs to be reasonably designed to ensure that the mold can quickly dissipate heat during use and avoid deformation or damage to the mold caused by excessive temperature.

The design of the cooling system also needs to consider the complexity of the mold and the characteristics of the injection molding material to ensure that the cooling effect is uniform and stable.

Tther strength requirements

Abrasion resistance: Thin-walled molds need to withstand high-speed friction during use, so the mold material needs to have good wear resistance to ensure the service life and accuracy of the mold.

Corrosion resistance: If the mold needs to be exposed to corrosive substances, such as certain chemical solvents or additives, then the mold material also needs to have good corrosion resistance to prevent the mold from being damaged by corrosion during use.
